Movember – Maintaining a Healthy Prostate Has it’s Perks

As we are well and truly into the moustache growing month of November we give you some information on prostate cancer and how to help prevent it

Incidents of prostate cancer in men have tripled in the last 40 years, although survival rates are gradually improving.  Do you know the signs of prostate cancer?  Here are 10 symptoms you may experience if you have a problem with your prostate gland and remember early detection saves lives so don’t put off going to the doctor if you think you may have a problem:

  1. frequent urination
  2. Not feeling you have emptied your bladder fully when you urinate
  3. difficulty passing urine
  4. Having to rush to the toilet to pass urine
  5. A weaker than normal stream of urine
  6. blood in your urine or semen
  7. Discomfort in your pelvic region
  8. Erectile Dysfunction
  9. Pain in your bones
  10. Incontinence

There are however some small changes to your lifestyle that can be made to help maintain a healthy prostate:

  • Get 5 hours of exercise a week
  • Add tomatoes to your daily diet
  • Try to keep your diet as healthy as possible, low in fat with lots of vegetables
  • Steer clear of processed foods and anything with hydrogenated oils
  • Add Omega 3 rich foods to your diet at lease 3 times a week
  • Eat 10mg raw garlic or spring onions daily
  • Have a cup of green tea regularly
  • Add ginger, oregano and rosemary to your food
  • Keep the amount of dairy and red meat to a minimum
  • Avoid sugar as much as possible, particularly refined white sugars
  • Eat vitamin D rich foods regularly or better still get out in the sun as much as possible
  • Keep alcohol consumption to 2 small glasses of wine a day
  • Don’t smoke
  • Have regular sex or masturbate at least 5 times a week
