Big up the Brussels this Christmas
Small yet powerful, the humble brussel sprout has an awful lot going for it….
Being high in vitamins A C and E it is a powerful antioxidant. It can also be helpful in preventing cancer due to the content of glucosinolate which also along with the vitamin K and omega 3 can act as an anti inflammatory and that’s not all A study has also shown that eating brussel sprouts on a daily basis can help improve stability of DNA in our white blood cells.
But here is the icing on the cake
Conception seems to rise during the month of December, the possible reason for this is the increase in consumption of brussel sprouts during December.
That sounds a little far fetched especially as December is the heart of the party season where people are likely to drink more and consequently be more relaxed about matters of the heart. But there are reasons for the belief that brussel sprouts can influence this rise, they are as follows:
- Brussel Sprouts are high in folic acid which helps boost fertility in both men and women
- They also contain diindolymethane, diindolylmethane help women keep a good balance of hormones making her more fertile.
- The rich source of vitamins in Brussel sprouts is said to help increase sperm count and line the womb with nutrients needed to carry the sperm safely.
Best eaten steamed so as not to boil out all of the goodness, enjoy this wonderful vegetable for as long as it is in season.
